Download Anvil

Anvil comes as a desktop app, which includes the anvil command-line tool (CLI), or as the CLI alone. Both use the same settings in ~/.anvil. Free and open source under the GPLv3.

macOS

macOS 12 (Monterey) or newer.

Desktop appBeing prepared: The app with the anvil CLI inside, as a download here and through Homebrew. It updates itself.
CLI onlyBeing prepared: The anvil command without the app, through Homebrew.
Build from sourceAvailable now: The CLI, the desktop app or both, built on your Mac. You need Rust and the Xcode command line tools, and Node.js and pnpm for the app. Step by step.

Linux

In development. The core builds and passes its tests on Linux, but setup (local domains, ports 80 and 443, the trusted certificate) works only on macOS today.

Windows

In development.

After installing, the Getting started guide walks through the first run: the password prompt for local domains, ports 80 and 443 and the HTTPS certificate, then your first project.
